25 Indian Nurses Evacuated From Libya

Fr. Tomy, Director of Bel Air received a request for help from stranded nurses in Libya in November 2014, this was forwarded to the ex Hon Sec Mrs. Homai Modi, IRCS Maharashtra State Branch who forwarded it to the Red Cross National Headquarters. The matter was taken up with the Joint Secretary to the Government, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare to take up the issue of evacuation of the stranded nurses who in turn got in touch with The Ministry of External Affairs. The Ministry of External Affairs vide their letter dated 26th December 2014 addressed to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare later informed that the 25 nurses had been flown to Cochin / Kozhikode between 19-21 December 2014. The entire expenditure on evacuation of nurses including transportation upto their hometowns, had been borne by the Government of India.
