Kandivili Fire Relief

On 16th December 2015 Indian Red Cross Society Maharashtra State Branch distributed relief material to 560 families who suffered in the fire which took place on 7th December 2015 at Damunagar, Kandivili (East), Mumbai. As several others had also distributed relief items, we were requested by the Collector of Mumbai Suburban District to give reliefto only 560 families instead of 1215.

Tamil Nadu Floods Relief

On 14th November 2015, we received an email from the Hon. General Secretary of Tamil Nadu State Red Cross requesting relief material urgently for the heavy floods it had suffered due to which many families were left homeless. Stranded At CST Mumbai

Due to heavy rains which lashed Mumbai on Friday 19th June 2015, Mumbai came to a halt & many passengers were stranded at the CST Railway Station. Nepal Earthquake Relief

An earthquake of 7.8 magnitude struck Nepal on 25th April 2015, followed by several aftershocks as well as another major one. We were flooded with enquiries of concern as the damage was intense. Nepal’s Valley, famous for its trekking routes, was wiped out. Our humanitarian work began. Contacting with difficulty the Nepal Red Cross Headquarters at Kathmandu, we sent therelief requested by them as they struggled with the distribution of relief, the wounded & disposal of the dead.

Standard Chartered Bank’s Contribution in J & K flood relief

Standard Chartered Bank had also partnered with the Indian Red Cross Society in supporting the provision of large Water Purification Units (WPUs) with the capacity to produce 3,000 litres of drinking water per hour, which would make safe drinking water available to those who were affected by the floods in Jammu & Kashmir among other initiatives.

Due to heavy rains and overflow of the Meharun dam in 7th Oct, 2014 September, the whole area of Meharun, Tambapura, Old Jalgaon, Hari Vithal Nagar, Kanchan Nagar, Shivaji Nagar and Mamurabad were flooded. Reunification of a lady with her family

We received a letter from Odisha State Branch requesting local assistance for release of a lady who was admitted in the Thane Regional Mental Hospital. She belonged to Paikujpura village, Post-Baisinga of Mayurbhanj district of Odisha & was mentally disturbed as her husband asked her to leave the house.

Relief to Fire affected of Ambedkar Nagar, Cuffe Parade, Mumbai

On 21st November 2013 a fire engulfed the Ambedkar Nagar slum in Cuffe Parade. Family kits (consisting of tarpaulin, utensil, plastic bucket, blanket, bed sheet, plastic mat, towel, saree & T-shirt) and other related aid was immediately distributed to over 500 families.

Uttarakhand Flood Relief

Uttarakhand State Branch accepted our proposal of constructing Disaster Relief Shelter in the affected areas after the cloudburst on 16th & 17th June 2013 which affected 12 of their 13 districts. Bandra Fire Relief

On 4th March 2011 a fire broke out at 8.30 p.m. in Garib Nagar slum at Bandra (E), Mumbai. Nearly 450 hutments were gutted in the blaze and 1800 people were rendered homeless. Safer Access Project

Safer Access Project was started by the Red Cross Maharashtra State’s Branch at Gadchiroli which is naxal land - a conflict zone dangerous to life. Worked with naxals and villagers in the forests where temperatures rise to 46▫. Apart from other activities ran a Mobile Health Unit in the villages of Gadchiroli. Under nutritional support program seeds were also distributed for cultivation and consumption in identified communities.
